The World Bank’s Carbon Finance Assist program is a global capacity building program for climate change mitigation implemented by the World Bank Institute (WBI) in collaboration with the Carbon Finance Unit (CFU). World Bank uses money contributed by governments and companies in OECD countries to purchase project-based GHG emission reductions in developing countries and countries with economies in transition. The carbon finance activities at the World Bank aim to catalyze a global carbon market that reduces transaction costs, supports sustainable development and reaches and benefits the poorer communities of the developing world.

| IETA is dedicated to: |
| • |
the objectives of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and ultimately climate protection; |
| • |
the establishment of effective market-based trading systems for greenhouse gas emissions by businesses that are demonstrably fair, open, efficient, accountable and consistent across national boundaries; and |
| • |
maintaining societal equity and environmental integrity while establishing these systems |
