An Over-Performing Market
With the rapid development of China’s sports industry, especially with the positive influence of 2008 Beijing Olympics Games on the industry, China’s Sports Facility Construction Industry has entered a stage of fast growth.

Besides the Beijing Olympics Games, major sports activities such as 2009 East Asian Games, 2009 11th National Games, 2010 Asian Games and 2011 World University Games will be held in Hong Kong, Jinan, Guangzhou and Shenzhen respectively over the next four years. Therefore, hundreds of billion RMB will be invested on the construction of sports facilities. It is said that the Shandong Province alone will renovate and build 65 sports facilities and 65 matching training facilities.

Hong Kong will invest HKD 4.4 billion, Guangzhou will invest RMB 1 billion and Shenzhen will invest RMB 3 billion on sports facilities.

In addition, Guangzhou city and Shandong Province has allocated tens of billion RMB on the construction of matching facilities and city infrastructure.

The holding of large scale sports games has also sparked ordinary people’s enthusiasm for sports and exercise across the nation. As a result, a nationwide surge fin the construction of sports venues is now underway.

Governments at all levels have increased their financial allocation to the construction of sports facilities, including the the building of large venues with sports amenities into many city development plans.

While increasing the number sports facilities, governments are also paying great attention to improving the functionality of present facilities with the overall aim of improving the quality of amenities available all round.

Provincial capitals and large/middle scale cities such as Guiyang, Taiyuan and Foshan are building or upgrading even their large-scale sports centers. Each of these cities plans to invest more than RMB 2 billion on sports facilities. Even China’s smaller cities are also building extensive new sports venues.

A Look at 2006

Visitors to last year’s event met around 100 exhibitors from 17 different countries and regions. As a direct result of ISFE China 2006, deals of several billion RMB were made in partnership agreements with delegations from Chinese Provincial Governments and City Sports Councils, who joined about 7,000 professional visitors to last year’s show.

A very promising start for the future of sports venue development in China.
